Professional Elder Law Services
Why Choose Me?
Elder law is constantly evolving and requires a great deal of dedication. It’s important for your estate planning attorney to stay up to date on not only the law, but also on every day issues affecting the aging population. I pride myself on seeking out innovative estate planning strategies and staying informed on policy updates affecting my clients. As a Beaver County native, I’m familiar with our community’s resources. Elder law and estate planning are not “one size fits all” areas of law. I provide personalized services catered to your specific needs. My goal is to educate you on all available options and help you make decisions to best suit your family. Most importantly, I hope you’ll find me to be compassionate and easy to work with. Get to know me more by scheduling a free consultation.
Estate Planning and Guardianships
A well-prepared estate plan can reduce future hassles for you and your family. I have experience in drafting plans of all complexities. A basic plan consists of a Will, Power of Attorney and Living Will. Basic estate plans are generally sufficient for younger clients, with no immediate concerns about asset protection and long-term care costs. Clients who have beneficiaries with special needs, or those wishing to avoid probate or protect assets, might benefit from trust planning. My experience in drafting both Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts sets me apart. I evaluate every client’s unique situation to provide advice on the right estate plan to meet their needs.
When a person who fails to execute an estate plan becomes disabled and can no longer manage their own affairs, their loved ones must often resort to petitioning the Court for Guardianship. I have been litigating guardianships since the beginning of my career. I also frequently serve as Court appointed counsel for incapacitated persons in need of representation.
If you need assistance in preparing a basic estate plan or in filing for guardianship of a loved one who did not pre-plan, contact my office for a consultation.
Long-Term Care Planning
“Long-Term Care” describes the services provided to elderly or disabled individuals who need assistance caring for themselves, whether in the home or in a facility. Long-term care ranges from minor assistance to skilled nursing services. It is expected that roughly 70% of us will need long-term care in our lifetimes. You may be surprised to know that Medicare will not cover this cost. With many local nursing homes charging $12,000 or more per month, the cost of care can quickly deplete your life’s savings. If you have concerns about protecting your hard-earned money in the event you need care, contact me for a Medicaid Planning Consultation. I will walk you through the tools available to protect your life’s savings.
If you have a loved one who is entering a nursing home, beware of advice to simply pay the facility until their money is depleted. Contact me for a Crisis Medicaid Planning consultation. I have worked with individuals and nursing facilities to qualify even the most difficult cases for medical assistance benefits. In most cases, I am successful at preserving at least half of an applicant’s assets while qualifying them for Medicaid to pay for their care.
Estate and Trust Administration
If you’ve recently lost a loved one, you probably have questions about probate, inheritance tax and the distribution of assets. Allow me to take the legal burden from you during this time of grief. I will assist you in collecting assets, negotiating final debts, paying inheritance tax and preparing all Court filings. If you need assistance settling your loved one’s final affairs, contact me for Estate Administration Consultation.
